Which Wix is the Right Wix? Harmony, Editor, or Studio: Choosing the Right Wix Editor for Your Website

Choosing Wix as your website platform is a GREAT beginning if you want an editor that also has marketing tools for managing your business.

However, once you choose Wix, you may notice there's another choice to make: Wix Harmony, the traditional Wix Editor, or Wix Studio. While all three will get you to your end goal of creating a professional website, they each serve different types of users and projects. So let's get into it now, so we can save you time and money later.

Why choose Wix Harmony for your next website project

Wix Harmony: AI Meets Drag-and-Drop Design

Wix Harmony is the new AI kid on the Wix block that combines conversational AI with visual website editing.

When creating a new site, you ask AI assistant, Aria, to generate or change pages, sections, images, written content, and other elements. You can then manually edit the results using drag-and-drop controls. Harmony sites are automatically responsive — so your site looks good on mobile, tablet or desktop — with additional options for adjusting for a custom mobile experience.

Harmony may be the best choice for business owners who:

  • Are creating a brand-new website

  • Want AI assistance throughout the process

  • Prefer a clean, streamlined editor

  • Do not need extensive custom development

  • Have confirmed that their required Wix apps are supported

To sum this up: Wix Harmony is a quick and easy choice if your website can rely primarily on Wix’s built-in tools and applications rather than custom-coded functionality.

Examples of extensive custom development might include:

  • A personalized member dashboard that displays different information for each user

  • A custom calculator, quote generator, product configurator, or assessment that saves and processes visitor responses

  • Custom booking, pricing, checkout, or membership rules that go beyond Wix’s standard settings

  • Secure connections to outside platforms that require private API keys or backend processing

  • Automated tasks that run on a schedule, such as generating reports, updating records, or synchronizing information with another system

  • Custom workflows that respond to activity in Wix Stores, Wix Bookings, memberships, forms, or pricing plans

  • Complex interactive features that need to communicate directly with Wix page elements, databases, or business applications

Harmony does allow certain standalone HTML, JavaScript, and CSS snippets, which may be useful for features such as third-party chat widgets, cookie banners, structured data, simple calculators, countdown timers, or external feeds.

If your website needs to operate more like a custom web application—or if its functionality depends on databases, secure integrations, advanced automation, or customized business logic—Wix Studio will give you a stronger foundation.

Wix Studio: Advanced Responsive Design and Development

Why choose Wix Studio for your next website project

Wix Studio is designed for professional designers, agencies, developers, marketers, and businesses that need greater control.

It provides advanced responsive layouts, customizable breakpoints, grid-based design, dynamic content, custom CSS, animations, development capabilities, and real-time collaboration.

Studio may be the best option when:

  • Your website requires a highly customized design

  • You need precise control across desktop, tablet, and mobile

  • Your project uses databases or dynamic pages

  • Several people will collaborate on the website

  • You need custom functionality or advanced interactions

  • You are hiring a professional to build and manage the site

However, more features also mean a greater learning curve. A business owner who only needs to change text and photos may not need all the controls that Studio provides.

I personally choose this option when creating a new site for clients because I love the control I have over the dynamic design and the advanced styling tools. I also like this as a foundation for clients who will need some growing room for advanced functionality and services. Because Wix Studio includes advanced responsive design controls, breakpoints, animations, development tools, and other professional features, the editing experience may feel more demanding than a simpler website builder—particularly when working on a large or complex site. So, if you're a newbie to website creation and editing tools, this may be your cue to go with Wix Harmony or Wix Editor.

The other problem is that editor loading and response times have an annoying lag time that can be caused by your internet connection, browser version, browser extensions, or the number of pages or elements in the website. When this happens I often try opening the editor in an incognito window, clearing the browser cache, and temporarily disabling extensions — but this doesn't always resolve the issue. Business owners working on older computers or with limited internet speeds probably want to veer away from Wix Studio. Studio offers more power, but that power requires a computer with decent processing power and a properly maintained browser environment.

The Wix Editor: Familiar and Practical

Why choose Wix Editor for your next website project

The traditional Wix Editor remains a practical option for many small business websites is is generally the entry point I see when working with a client who wants a website redesign.

It provides a familiar drag-and-drop interface and broad access to Wix’s established business applications like Bookings, Events, . Wix automatically creates a mobile-friendly version of the desktop site, which can then be customized through the mobile editor.

The Wix Editor is a good choice when:

  • You want to manage routine updates yourself

  • You are building a relatively straightforward business website

  • You need established Wix applications*

  • You do not need advanced responsive design controls

*Examples of established Wix applications include Wix Stores, Bookings, Blog, Events, Members, Forms, Pricing Plans, Online Programs and more... Many of these applications are also available in Wix Studio and Wix Harmony; however, rebuilding a site in another editor may require those features and workflows to be reviewed, recreated, or retested.

There is no reason to rebuild a successful website simply because a newer editor exists.

A redesign may be justified when the current site no longer supports the business, but it should be based on strategy—not pressure to use the newest technology.

The Wix Editor doesn't have the design and layout muscles that Wix Studio offers, but it's a reliable, easy solution that still packs a functional punch.

What Everyone Fails to Consider: Price

Does One Wix Editor Cost More Than Another?

You can begin creating and testing a website for free with Wix Harmony, the Wix Editor or Wix Studio. However, when you're ready to publish your business website, you'll need a paid site plan if you want to connect a custom domain, remove Wix branding or access additional business features.

Wix Editor and Wix Studio sites require different types of paid plans. A standard Wix Premium plan cannot simply be assigned to a Wix Studio site without being upgraded to a Studio plan.

Wix Harmony and Wix Editor Pricing

Wix Harmony is included in Wix’s standard plans without an additional AI-editor fee. Wix Harmony and traditional Wix sites use the standard Wix plan structure. Current U.S. prices (as of July 2026) for annual billing, are:

  • Free Plan: $0 per month

Build and publish a basic site using a Wix-branded web address. Wix branding remains on the site.

  • Light: $17 per month

Connect a custom domain, remove Wix branding and access essential website and marketing features. This plan does not accept online payments.

  • Core: $29 per month

Adds payment processing, basic e-commerce, online scheduling and additional storage.

  • Business: $39 per month - this is the plan I recommend to most of my clients

Provides expanded e-commerce, marketing and business-management capabilities.

  • Business Elite: $159 per month

Designed for larger or more complex businesses requiring advanced functionality, developer capabilities, greater collaboration and unlimited storage.

Wix Studio Pricing

Wix Studio uses a separate collection of site plans (as of July 2026) :

  • Free: $0 per month

Build and test a Studio website using Wix branding and a Wix-hosted address.

  • Basic: $19 per month

Connect a custom domain and establish a professional online presence. This plan does not accept payments.

  • Standard: $27 per month

Accept online payments and use Wix business solutions such as e-commerce, bookings, subscriptions and events.

  • Plus: $34 per month

Adds more storage, CMS capacity, lead-generation tools and collaboration capabilities.

  • Elite: $159 per month

Designed for complex, high-traffic or data-driven projects requiring extensive CMS capacity, unlimited media storage and larger teams.

A Practical Price Comparison

For a basic informational website, the traditional Wix Light plan currently costs $17 per month, while the Wix Studio Basic plan costs $19 per month—a difference of only $2 per month.

For a website that needs to accept payments, the Wix Core plan starts at $29 per month, while Wix Studio Standard starts at $27 per month. At the higher end, Wix Business Elite and Wix Studio Elite are both currently listed at $159 per month.

These prices are based on annual billing. Wix also offers month-to-month subscriptions at a higher rate. Pricing may vary by location, account, promotion and purchase date, so always review the current plan details before upgrading.

Remember the Additional Costs

Your Wix plan may not represent the full operating cost of your website. Depending on your needs, you may also pay for:

  • Domain renewal after any introductory free year

  • A professional Google Workspace email address

  • Premium third-party Wix apps

  • Payment-processing fees

  • Email-marketing upgrades

  • Accessibility, legal or specialized business tools

  • Professional website design, maintenance or consulting

Select the plan that supports the features your business genuinely needs without paying for capacity or complexity you are unlikely to use.

So Which Wix Editor Is Best?

If you've gotten this far in my blog post, you'll realize that no single answer serves every business.

The simpler way to approach this decision is:

  • Choose Wix Harmony for a new website when you want to work with AI and have verified that all your required features are supported.

  • Choose the Wix Editor when you want a familiar experience, need established Wix applications, or already have a website that is working effectively.

  • Choose Wix Studio when the project requires advanced responsive design, dynamic content, custom development, or professional collaboration.

Whenever you're ready to make a choice, begin with asking yourself these questions:

  • What is the purpose of my website?

  • What should visitors do when they arrive on my website?

  • What information do I need include on my home page to help the visitor take a next step to accomplish my purpose?

  • What functionality does my business website need?

  • MOST IMPORTANTLY: Who will maintain the business website after it launches?
