Blue Leaf Ventures came to The Wix Doctor with an established website and an established track record. They didn't want to start over, but their existing Wix website was not working as hard for them as they were working for their clients.

BEFORE & AFTER

Blue Leaf Ventures Phase 1 Update

AFTER

As an early-stage venture capital firm, Blue Leaf Ventures works with entrepreneurs who are building businesses designed to solve meaningful problems and improve people’s lives. Their own website needed to communicate that same sense of forward momentum.

For Phase 1 of the website redesign, the goal was to take what was already working, address some important technical and usability issues, and create a more modern digital presence that could support the firm’s next chapter.

The Challenge: A Successful Firm Needed a Smarter Website

The original Blue Leaf Ventures website communicated the basics, but several areas needed attention.

Visually, the site was beginning to feel dated. Some interactive Wix elements, including hover boxes, were no longer functioning properly, and mobile layouts needed significant cleanup.

More importantly, there were opportunities to tell a much stronger story.

The firm had helped launch and grow an impressive portfolio of entrepreneurial businesses, but those companies were primarily represented by logos. Unless a visitor already recognized a company, there was very little context explaining what it did—or illustrating the breadth of businesses Blue Leaf Ventures had supported.

The team had also evolved. Headshots and biographies needed updating, their geographic presence needed to be more visible, and the website needed stronger SEO foundations to help search engines—and increasingly AI-driven search tools—better understand the firm.

The Phase 1 priorities included:

  • Modernizing the overall website design while retaining the existing Blue Leaf Ventures brand.

  • Updating team photography, biographies, and leadership information.

  • Improving on-page SEO and content structure.

  • Correcting mobile layout and responsive design issues.

  • Replacing outdated or malfunctioning Wix hover interactions.

  • Highlighting Blue Leaf Ventures' presence in New York, San Francisco, Palm Beach, and Philadelphia.

  • Adding an email subscription opportunity.

  • Transforming the portfolio from a collection of logos into a meaningful showcase of the companies Blue Leaf Ventures has helped support.

  • Creating a stronger foundation for the next phase of the company's growth.

Refreshing the Visual Language

The redesign was an opportunity to refine the visual language of the Blue Leaf Ventures brand without abandoning what was already recognizable.

The original website relied heavily on large blocks of bright blue, traditional serif typography, and occasional green accents. For the new design, I developed a more sophisticated use of the existing brand colors, balancing Blue Leaf’s signature blues with more neutral space and carefully placed accent colors. The result feels cleaner, more contemporary, and better suited to an established venture capital firm while still maintaining continuity with the original brand.

Typography received a similar update. Rather than allowing the typeface itself to carry so much of the design, the new site uses a cleaner, more structured typographic hierarchy with stronger distinctions between headlines, supporting copy, labels, and calls to action. This makes the content easier to scan while giving the site a more confident, editorial feel.

Making the Blue Leaf Ventures Difference Clearer

A website redesign isn't always about adding more content. Often, it's about creating better hierarchy.

The redesigned homepage brings Blue Leaf Ventures' positioning forward much more quickly: early-stage investing combined with the practical experience of seasoned business operators.

Rather than making visitors search for that differentiator, the new design uses stronger headlines, focused supporting copy, strategic calls to action, and clearer content sections to lead them through the story.

The site's four primary investment areas—Financial Services, Education, Life Sciences, and Industrial—are also easier to identify and explore.

And throughout the site, calls to action were refined around a much more appropriate objective for a venture capital firm: beginning a conversation.

Designing for Desktop, Mobile—and Search

Some of the biggest website improvements are the ones visitors may never consciously notice.

During Phase 1, I addressed responsive design issues so that pages translate more effectively across desktop and mobile devices. Outdated interactive elements were replaced or redesigned rather than allowing broken hover functionality to interfere with the experience.

The content structure was also reconsidered with SEO in mind.

Headings, page organization, website copy, image information, navigation, and page-level SEO were updated to give search engines clearer signals about who Blue Leaf Ventures is, what the firm does, the industries it serves, and the companies it supports.

The redesigned footer also works harder, reinforcing navigation, focus areas, the firm's four major markets, and an opportunity to subscribe for company news and updates.

Website Redesign Doesn't Always Mean Starting Over

The platform still works. Your branding is recognizable. Your business has simply moved forward while your website stayed behind.

That's where a strategic website redesign can make a major difference.

If your Wix website no longer reflects the business you've built—or you're entering a new stage of growth—The Wix Doctor can help you determine what should stay, what needs to change, and how to make your website work harder for what's coming next.
